If you don’t already know Donald Trump is the President elect and Mike Pence the VP elect.
(brief golf clap)
Now what are conservatives, whether they be principled #NeverTrump’er such as myself, or those who came around to supporting Trump and Pence such as Mark Levin and Sen. Ted Cruz(whom I ran as an alternate delegate for), to do with the election in the rear view mirror and inauguration day on the horizon?
To put it simply we do what we’ve always done, we fight for our principles, the Constitution, and the betterment of our fellow-man.
Conservatives who came long before me fought to bring conservatism to the American people, fought to get Barry Goldwater the GOP presidential nomination, and kept on fighting right on to election night in 1980.
Even when we conservatives finally succeeded with the pivotal election of Ronald Reagan we didn’t stop fighting. We fought for his tax cuts, his deregulation of energy and communications, and rebuilding of the military. We battled to abolish the Department of Education, adopt a balanced budget amendment. and end implement the Strategic Defense Initiative that helped to end the Cold War.
The fighting for the conservative cause never ceases as evidenced by the Gingrich Revolution and all that brought such as welfare to work.
Not so long ago that fight took the form of opposing President George W. Bush’s attempts at amnesty for illegal immigrants and some of his choices for the Supreme Court.
Now that Donald Trump will be leading our nation and the Republican Party for the next four years we conservatives are going to have to fight to make sure that his good policy agenda items happen, especially with the GOP in control of Congress for the next 2 years.
School choice and education reform is one of the biggest and best things we could ever hope to do for our nation in the long run and it is something that has to happen.
The same goes for tax cuts, regulatory reforms, and the complete and total repeal and defunding of every word and regulation of Obamacare.
Donald Trump’s support of congressional term limits is to be applauded and to make sure it happens we conservatives need to convince him to back the Article V Convention of States effort so that the necessary number of state legislatures get on board so that the states can then ratify those term limits and hopefully get a balanced budget amendment, further tax reform via the flat tax or fair tax, and maybe even other parts of Mark Levin’s Liberty Amendments.
When Donald Trump and his biggest supporters like Steve Bannon go head long into bad policy making, such as protectionist trade policies, we conservatives will have to fight back. We’ll have to point out how and why punitive tariffs, protectionism, and trade wars created the Great Depression.
When his children start pushing for a new taxpayer backed paid family leave entitlement, we conservatives will fight back against that as we must.
Many years from now we’ll all be fighting still for different candidates and for different conservative ideas.
But as always we will be fighting for our principles, the Constitution, and the betterment of our fellow-man.
