Here is the latest developments on yesterday’s terror attack in Boston.
One of the victims has been identified. 8 year old Martin Richard of Boston was standing with his mother and little sister near the marathons finish line waiting for his dad, who was running in the race, when the bombs went off. Both Martin’s mother and sister remain hospitalized today with critical injuries.
While the death toll, thankfully, hasn’t increased today the number of those injured has, climbing to over 170.
At a press conference this morning Governor Deval Patrick stated that there were only two explosive devices used yesterday and that the reported other unexploded devices turned out not to be bombs at all. At the same presser the FBI again stated that they do not have a suspect in custody and that they don’t believe there are any ongoing threats. The Department of Homeland Security also hasn’t issued any alerts about additional threats.
Around midnight law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant on a fifth floor apartment in Revere, MA in connection to the marathon bombing. Free Republic reports that the apartment complex is a Section 8 hellhole complete with broken elevators, rodent infestations, prostitution, rampant drug use, and management that doesn’t do credit or background checks of its tenants, O’ and there is no security at the building either.
Fox News is reporting that the apartment searched late last night and early this morning belongs to the person of interest currently under heavy guard at a Boston area hospital were he is being treated for possible burns or shrapnel wounds.
As time goes on we are getting stories about those who helped the victims of yesterdays bombing, including that of former New England Patriots offensive lineman Joe Andruzzi who in this picture from the Daily Caller, helped carry the injured.
Current Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola is pledging to donate $100 to a Boston marathon victims fund and $200 for any dropped pass.
So far no one has claimed responsibility for the bombing attack however, circumstantial evidence continues to point to this being the work of Islamic terrorist. CNS News today is reminding people of calls for terrorism from Al Qaeda on sporting events:
a leading al-Qaeda ideologue last year recommended that jihadists in America include sporting events in their list of prospective terror targets.
Writing in the online magazine of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), Inspire, the terrorist known as Abu Musab al-Suri listed what he called “the most important enemy targets.”
Al-Suri contended that civilians should be targeted “when responding to a brutal practice carried out by America and her allied forces.”
“This is done by targeting human crowds in order to inflict maximum human losses,” he wrote. “This is very easy since there are numerous such targets such as crowded sports arenas, annual social events, large international exhibitions, crowded market-places, skyscrapers, crowded buildings … etc.”
“It is possible for ordinary Resistance fighters among the Muslims residing in America and the allied Western countries to target them, in order to participate in the jihad and the Resistance, and to stretch out a helping hand to the mujahidun [Islamic warriors].”
Further more Bridget Johnson writing at PJ Media has some eerie tweets sent out from Al Qaeda linked terrorist group Al-Shabaab, which is based in Somalia.
On Sunday Al-Shabaab launched a coordinated attack on Somalia’s Supreme Court killing more than 30. AllAfrica.com has more on that terrorist attack:
Somali government officials and military experts condemned al-Shabaab’s raid on the Benadir regional court complex on Sunday (April 14th), calling it a cowardly act of desperation.
A ten-man suicide commando unit blasted its way into Mogadishu’s main court complex on Sunday, when one al-Shabaab militant detonated himself at the gate while the rest of the team entered the courtyard of the complex spraying gunfire and blowing themselves up as they ran out of ammunition. The rampage left at least 29 civilians dead.
The complex houses Somalia’s Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, the Military Court and the Office of the Attorney General.
As the shootout inside the court complex was unfolding, five more civilians were killed when a remote-detonated car bomb near the airport struck a convoy carrying Turkish aid.
Of course just like yesterday liberals can’t seem to let ago of the possibility of the Boston marathon bombing being the responsibility of some “right winger”. The latest person to link Tax Day or Patriots day to the bombing is former White House adviser and now MSNBC commentator David Axelrod.
*Update: We now know that the bombs used in Boston were pressure cookers packed with ball bearings, something first seen used by Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan. Yet more evidence pushing this towards being an act of terror carried out by Islamic terrorist.
*Update II: The Boston pressure cooker bomb appears to have been the same kind of explosive that was used in the foiled Fort Hood plot(h/t The Blaze)
*Update III: A second person killed in the bombing has been Identified. 29-year-old restaurant manager named Krystle Campbell, of Medford, Mass.
