an issue of safety

A high school senior is suspended 20 days for having a 2 inch pocket knife locked in his car, a six year old is suspended for bringing utensils to eat lunch, all in the name of zero tolerance for weapons on school grounds.  Ladies and gentlemen I hate to point this fact out to you but every object is a potential weapon, folding chairs, spoons, mercury filled light bulbs, baseball bats, scissors, salt shakers, roll of toilet paper, every thing can be used as a weapon.  The difference between and object just being a harmless object and a weapon is the intent of the person using it.  If you have a knife in your car as part of a survival kit your intention is non violent and thusly nothing further needs to be made of it except maybe a warning that said knife must stay with said survival kit in said car, you don't call the cops, you don't level out suspension.  Common sense should make these kinds of distinctions easy and obvious, unfortunately liberalism is the willful act of ignoring common sense.

Now that senior has aspirations of going to West Point, as someone who knows four grads of Annapolis, I wish you the best of luck, and the Army will be well served to have a fine young man such as this.
